A proposal for division of all available work through creation of a joint employment bureau was made at a session of the Jewish National Council today by David Remez, secretary of the Histadruth, Palestine Jewish labor federation.
Remez promised that the Histadruth would forego all strikes and picketing if such a bureau, representing all parties and controlled by the Council and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, were set up. The Council session, which had been convened to discuss an armistice on labor disputes, adjourned without reaching a decision on the proposal.
Council President Pinchas Rutenberg announced that public works having a total value of £800,000 would be started in February, employing 10,000 to 15,000 Jews and giving the Palestine Jewish community “a nine-month breathing spell.”
