Striking doctors shut down hospital wards today as their four-week-old walkout continued with no settlement in sight. Only a single ward in each department remained open in the struck hospitals, resulting in severe overcrowding.

The doctors insisted, however, that while the patients may be inconvenienced, all those who required treatment were receiving it. There have been no contacts since early this week between the striking doctors and representatives of the hospital managements and the government. Premier Golda Meir met with the directors of three hospitals yesterday in an effort to get negotiations going again.

Deputy Premier Yigal Allon entered the Tel Hashomer clinic this morning with a medical complaint and was placed in a ward for examination. Former Premier David Ben Gurion was reported today to be recovering from an attack of bronchitis he suffered several days ago.
