A documentary volume on “The Third Reich and the Jews,” with 400 pages of text and 72 pages of photostats and pictures, has been issued here by the Arani Publishing House, a German firm close to the Social Democratic Party.
The authors and compilers of the imposing work, first of its kind to be available in Germany for general circulation, are two well-known Jewish scholars, Leon Poliakov and Josef Wulf. The former, a Russian-born historian who has lived in Paris since 1920, is director of the “Centre du Documentation Juive Contemporaine,” the French Jewish institute that has specialized in research on Nazi persecutions. Mr. Wulf was a member of the Central Jewish Historical Commission in Warsaw after the war and now lives in Berlin, where he is engaged in historical research on Nazi policy on the Jews.
The five sections of their volume deal with looting and spoliation; with the Nazi extermination policies, the technique of the killings and the results as they are reflected in statistical figures; with testimony of Jewish witnesses; with particularly revealing excerpts from Nazi writings, newspapers, official communications, etc; and, in a final chapter, with aid and solidarity shown by non-Jews from Finland to Greece.
