Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss today received Lord Melchett of England, noted British industrialist and Jewish leader, for a discussion of Austro-British and Austro-Palestine economic relations.
The Austrian chancellor received Lord Melchett after a storm of press criticism which followed his avoidance of a pre-arranged interview with Lord Melchett yesterday because of the chancellor’s policy of not receiving Jews in audience. Lord Melchett had proceeded to Vienna to keep the appointment yesterday, leaving Prague where he had witnessed the Jewish sports festival of the world Maccabee organization, of which he is honorary president, and had greeted the Eighteenth World Zionist Congress now in session there.
