Prince Ernst Ruediger von Starhemberg, leader of the Heimwehr, the Austrian Fascists, today became vice-chancellor of the Federal Christian State of Austria. He succeeds Major Emil Fey, leader of the Vienna Heimwehr and commander of the forces which crushed the Austrian Socialist movement.
Von Starhemberg, who has advocated friendly relations between Austria and Germany on the basis of independence for Austria, has stated on several occasions that “there is no Jewish problem” in Austria and has repudiated “utopian race theories.”
The Reichspost, official government organ, in a long article today, roundly scored the Zionist leadership of the Vienna Jewish community and supported the Union of Austrian Jews and the Agudath Israel in demanding that the community administration confine itself to purely religious, non-political issues, in representations to the government.
