District Commissioner James Campbell today ordered closed the door leading to the Wailing Wall enclosure, because of many Arab-Jewish disputes in recent years.
The closing order was accompanied by a statement that the door’s opening by the Moslems during the previous six months should not have been permitted because it was an infringement of the status quo.
Jews have wept at the Wailing Wall for centuries. In 1929 it was the cause of violent Arab-Jewish rioting.
