Dozens of people protested Ariel Sharon outside the United Jewish Communities’ annual meeting in Toronto. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators rallied Monday night outside the Toronto convention center, where thousands of delegates to the North American Jewish federation system’s annual General Assembly were gathered. Sharon was not at the meeting, but delivered a videotaped message to the delegates from Jerusalem. Sharon urged the federation system to encourage more immigration to Israel and expressed support for Operation Promise, a $160 million effort to help elderly Jews in the former Soviet Union and bring the remaining Falash Mura from Ethiopia to Israel.
