Dr. Abraham W. Sender, Jewish Musicologist, Dead at 71; Funeral Today

Dr. Abraham W. Binder, internationally-known Jewish composer, conductor and music teacher for half a century died here yesterday after a brief illness. He was 71. Dr. Binder was born on New York’s Lower East Side. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the Stephen S. Wise Free Synagogue, here.

Dr. Binder, who in 1965 retired as music director of the 92nd St. YM-YWHA, a post he assumed in 1917, was music director of the School of Sacred Music of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, music director of New York’s Free Synagogue, and honorary chairman of the National Jewish Welfare Board Jewish Music Council. He was a prodigious composer.
