Dr. Bernard Bergman, editor and publisher of the Jewish Morning Journal, was elected president of Hapoel Hamizrachi of America at the closing session of the organization’s 26th annual convention held here last night.
Rabbi Bergman, following his election, declared: “Religion is a patriotic necessity for the survival of the Jewish state. Just as an indomitable religious spirit maintained the Jews as a united people for 2,000 years through oppression and persecution, so will the inspiration of “Torah Va’Avodah’ preserve them as a nation, a sovereign state and a powerful religious inspiration as proven by Hapoel Hamizrachi defenders of Jerusalem against the Arab Legion.”
