The senate of the Hebrew University today elected Prof. Dr. Hugo Bergmann to fill the newly created post of rector of the Mt. Scopus school. The post was created by the university’s Board of Governors at its annual meeting in Lucerne, Sept. 11, to take over some of the duties of the chan-

cellorship when Judah L. Magnes relinquished his chancellorship to become president of the university.

Prof. Bergmann until recently had occupied the position of director of the Hebrew National and University Library. Since his resignation from that post he has published a monograph on the development of the library during the fifteen years he was its director. In that period the library had become one of the most complete in the Near East and was frequently used by noted scholars from all over the world.

Prof. Bergmann’s successor as director of the library is Dr. Gotthold Weil, formerly head of the Oriental department of the Berlin State Library.
