Dr. Cyrus Adler, chairman of the Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board, recently, upon the invitation of Major General Douglas MacArthur and Major General J. H. McRae, of the United State Army, visited Forth Monmouth, N. J. one of the Citizens’ Military Training Camps.
Commenting on his visit, Dr. Adler stated: “I went through the men’s quarters, was present at the mess, visited the library and recreation rooms, and saw some squads at drill. The Camp made an excellent impression on met it certainly seemed a healthful and instructive way for young Americans to be spending a month in the summer.”
The Jewish Welfare Board conducts religious and social activities for Jewish young men at the Citizens’ Military Training Camps. Fifty Jewish young men are at Fort Monmouth Rabbi Emil Friedman is the representative of the Jewish Welfare Board there.
WANT JONAH J. GOLDSTEIN FOR SUPREME COURT BENCH
Friends of Jonah J. Goldstein have opened a campaign to obtain for him the nomination to the Supreme Court to succeed Justice Mitchell L. Erlanger, who will retire Dec. 31, barred from another term by the age limit.
Leaders in Jewish communal activities have been given to understand that Tammany intends to pick a Jew for the post.
Mr. Goldstein is a member of the Tammany Society and of the National Democratic Club. He is connected with many Jewish philanthropic institutions, including the Executive Committee of the Joint Distribution Committee, the Federation of Jewish Charities and the Jewish Education Association.
