Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the Jewish Agency, today held three meetings with prominent leaders of the Arab community in Israel, exchanging views on the chances for peace in the Middle East and on the problems of minorities in Israel.
The first of the meetings was with Arab members of the Israel Parliament, prominent sheikhs and other well-known Arab public figures in the all-Arab city of Nazareth. This meeting had been arranged by the Israel-Arab Peace Society.
Later, Dr. Goldmann had lunch with Greek Orthodox Bishop Hakim, Nazareth’s Arab Mayor, Dr. Jardjura; and the Maronite Bishop who is in this country on a visit from Lebanon to the Maronite communities in Israel. Finally, Dr. Goldmann visited the village of Rinna, where he conferred with a number of village headmen from the surrounding area, who discussed with him the problems of the Arab farmers in the area.
