Dr. Heinrich Stern, for many years president of the Federation of Liberal Jews in Germany and a leader of the German Jewish community for the first six years of the Hitler regime, died hero Friday night at the age of 66.
Dr. Stern was head of the council of the Berlin Jewish community. He was forced to flee the country in 1939 and took refuge in England where he founded the New Liberal Congregation and was a member of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. He was chairman of the executive council and co-founder of the World Union for Progressive Judaism.
