The Polish cabinet will have a Jew among its members for the first time in the history of Poland, following the naming yesterday of Dr. Herman Lisherman as Polish Minister of Justice. Dr. Licherman, a leader of the Polish Socialist Party, had been imprisoned by Marshal Pilaudski ten years ago and for many years lived in exile from his country.
Simultaneously negotiations were started here today to have at least three Jewish members in the Polish National Council which was dissolved this morning by President Raczkiewiscx to be reorganized in the course of the month with a view of including Polish leaders who have now been released from exile in Soviet Russia. Zionist groups would like to see Prof. Moses Schorr chief-rabbi of Poland and Dr. Emil Sommerstein, former deputy of the Polish parliament, as members of the reorganized Polish National Council in addition to Dr. Ignacy Schnarabart who is at present the only Jewish member of the Council. The release of Prof. Schorr and Dr. Sommerstein in Soviet Russia is expected any day.
Meanwhile the extreme orthodox Augdes today advanced the name of ex-Senator Jakob Trokenheim as candidate for the Polish National Council while the Jewish Socialist Bund party was expected to name for membership in the Council some of its leaders The request for three Jewish representatives in the Polish National council is based on the proportion of the Jewish population in Poland.
