Before departing for Palestine and other countries of the Near East, as well as Western Europe, Dr. Leo Jung, Rabbi of the Jewish Centre, 131 W. 86th St., and member of the Editorial Board of “The Jewish Forum”, made the statement that he received information from an absolutely reliable source which convinces him that the cable from Dr. Munk, head of the Orthodox Jewish Community of Berlin, denying the widespread excesses in Germany, did not correspond with the facts.
“There is incontrovertible evidence,” Dr. Jung said, “that at least 70 Jews were cruelly murdered by the Nazis and a great number brutally ill-treated. I wish to emphasize that the cold-blooded and unfortunately successful system instituted by the German government to starve out the Jewish populace represents a still more heinous crime, the full story of which cannot be told before the German government removes its water-tight censorship.”
The occasion was a farewell reception and Bon Voyage Tea tendered the Rev. Dr. Leo Jung in the auditorium of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, 2 W. 70th St., under the auspices of the Women’s Association of “The Jewish Forum.” Mrs. Rebecca Kohut, President of the World Organization of Jewish. Women, presided, and among the speakers were Mrs. Moses Hyamson, Mrs. Herbert S. Goldstein, Mrs. David de Sola Pool, Mrs. Nima H. Adlerblum, Mrs. Leo Jung, Rev. Dr. David de Sola Pool, Prof. A. Broderick Cohen, Director of the Evening Session of Hunter College, and Isaac Rosengarten, Editor of “The Jewish Forum.”
