Dr. Lee K. Frankel was elected chairman of the National Health Council at the first annual American Health Congress held in Atlantic City.
In his address before the Congress, Dr. Louis I. Harris, Commissioner of Health of New York City, advocated both State and Federal control of the milk supply, terming is as much of a public utility as water.
In a telegram to the Congress, Nathan Straus, pioneer in pasteurization and former Health Commissioner of New York said that “if ordinances for Federal control of milk, including pasteurization, are passed, and all the present abuse and graft avoided, it will prevent much sickness and save innumerable lives which are now sacrificed by infected milk.”
Amalgamation of the Young Men’s Hebrew Association and the Young Women’s Hebrew Association of Baltimore has been formally perfected. Heretofore, the organizations were maintained separately.
New officers to administer the affairs of the combined associations have been elected as follows: Honorary President, Judge Eli Frank; President, Harry Greenstein; Vice-Presidents, Aaron Straus and Miss Rose Esterson; Treasurer, Milton E. Gundersheimer; Assistant Treasurer, E. Reuben Lipman; Secretary, Frank J. Rubenstein.
Mr. Rubenstein also was elected director of the new association, and Miss Ruth Meyers director of women’s activities.
