Dr. Julius Mark, spiritual leader of Temple Emanu-El here, was honored at a special Sabbath service at the temple yesterday on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his ordination. Dr. Ferdinand M. Isserman, of St. Louis, a former classmate of Dr. Mark at Hebrew Union College, who delivered a guest sermon, hailed the New York rabbi as “a leader of American and world Jews” and as an active worker in the country’s good causes during his four decades of service in the Reform rabbinate.
Dr. Mark is a member of the governing board of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. He is also president of the Synagogue Council of America which represents the rabbinic and congregational bodies of the three branches of American Judaism–Orthodox, Conservative and Reform.
