Dr. Heinrich Neumann, noted Viennese Jewish ear specialist, denied today that he had refused to treat Chancellor Adolf Hitler.
“Had I been called, I would have gone as I would have gone to any patient,” Dr. Neumann declared in an interview with the Paris Soir in Vienna. “For physicians there is no question of race or political opinion, but only of people suffering.”
The 64-year-old physician, who has treated the Duke of Windsor, was released recently from arrest by the Nazi authorities in Vienna. Dr. Neumann said he had resigned his position with Vienna University, and intended to remain in Vienna and continue practice. He expressed the hope that he would be left “to work for the relief of those who suffer.”
