Recent attacks voiced against Israel in this country, in connection with Israel’s role in the case of Dr. Robert A. Soblen, were criticized sharply here this weekend by Dr. Emanuel Neumann, American member of the Jewish Agency executive. He spoke at the national convention of the Student Zionist Organization held here which was attended by 200 delegates from 50 colleges. He characterized these attacks as “unfair, unjustified and wholly unwarranted.”
Unfriendly criticism against Israel expressed by some non-Jewish Americans, said Dr. Neumann, was due “partly to ignorance of the facts and partly to conscious or unconscious bias.” As for anti-Israeli attacks on this issue among Jews, the Zionist leader declared, “such reactions took no cognizance of the speed with which Israel expelled Soblen, and the fact that the Israel Government could do no more than that in conformity with its own laws.”
