A paper on “Is the Jewish Philosophy Extinct” will be read at the International Congress of Philosophers to be held this summer at Oxford by Dr. A. A. Roback, former Professor of Psychology at Harvard University and instructor of the first university credit course of Yiddish literature in America. Dr. Roback sailed yesterday on his first trip to Europe after concluding the examinations of the Yiddish Literature course at the Boston University Extension.
“I am more than satisfied with the result of the first Yiddish University course,” Dr. Roback declared before sailing for Europe. Some 163 students regularly attended the Yiddish course, a great part of them being lawyers and physicians, though the majority who attended were women. The course lasted ten weeks and two sessions weekly were held.
At two of the sessions, Alice Stone Blackwell, the famous suffragist and journalist, also translator of Bialik’s poetry, lectured on “Yiddish and General Poetry”.
