Dr. Shlomo Kaplansky, director of the Haifa Technion, died here during the week-end following an operation. He was 68 years old. One of Israel’s outstanding cultural leaders, Dr. Kaplansky was at one time a member of the Jewish Agency executive. He recently joined the left-wing Socialist party, Mapam. He has been director of the Haifa Technion since 1931.
Dr. Kaplansky, who was born in Russia, settled in Palestine in 1912 and served as secretary of the Jewish National Fund from 1913-1919. Later he became director of the Finance and Economic Committee of the World Zionist Organization. He was one of the founders of the Labor Zionist party.
