If ever Jewry needed Palestine it is now, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland told more than 5,000 Zionists at a Chanukah festival held at the Auditorium Theatre here.
“We must have this homeland in Palestine as a place of refuge,” Dr. Silver declared, predicting that within a decade “we will have a Jewish homeland in Palestine if the present rate of immigration keeps up.”
The speaker asserted that “cool heads, stout hearts and a strong faith” are required of all Jews to get by the “trying” times. He advised abandonment of a spirit of defeatism, pointing out that “Hitler is only two years old; we are 4,000 years old.”
