The 50th birthday of Dr. Stephen S. Wise was celebrated here last night with a dinner at the Congress Hotel, which many prominent Chicagoansy among them Judge Hugo Pam and Mr. Harry Fisher, participated.
Dr. Wise, in his address, attacked President Coolidge for signing the restrictive immigration bill, and stated that America should not, under any circumstances, have closed its gates to those who were seeking refuge from persecution.
Dr.. Wise also mentioned the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, and praised its work, which he said is “an important instrument for the creation of a Jewish public opinion in this country.”
$10,000 was raised in cash at the dinner table for the work of the American Jewish Congress.
