Dr. Miron Semenovich Vovsi, an eminent Soviet physician who was arrested in the 1953 “doctors’ plot,” has died in Moscow at the age of 62, the Soviet radio announced today. “The cause of death was not given. The broadcast said the body will lie in state tomorrow at Botkin Hospital, one of the most important in Moscow.
Dr. Vevsi had been arrested along with other Jewish doctors and was charged with espionage and sabotaging the health of Soviet leaders. He was released with 14 other physicians three months later, after the death of Stalin. Dr. Vovsi was fully rehabilitated and decorated with the Order of Lenin on his 60th birthday in 1957.
