Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization and president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, was re-elected president of the British Zionist Federation last night at the closing session of the three-day annual convention of the organization.
In an editorial commenting upon the convention, the liberal Manchester Guardian writes that the British Government, even though it may decide to extend the immigration provisions of the White Paper, must “make up its mind to return to the spirit of the mandate which the White Paper abandoned.” The creation of President Roosevelt’s War Refugee Board, the editorial says, proves the urgency of the rescue problem, and makes it doubly important that Palestine be available as a haven for refugees.
