Dr. William Armhold, Rabbi Emeritus of Keneseth Israel, Philadelphia, died here yesterday, at the age of 96 years. Internment will take place Friday in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Philadelphia. Dr. Armhold was born in Schluchtern, Baden, Germany, June 16 1829. He was graduated from the Teachers Seminary in Karlsruhe in 1850 and came to the United States in 1853. His first charge in America was the Congregation Ez Chayim of Pittsburg, a strictly orthodox congregation. After five years he organized the Rodeph Shalom Congregation of Pittsburgh, which dedicated its first synagogue in 1862, introducing the modern reforms. In 1865 he accepted the call from Keneseth Israel, Philadelphia, where he officiated for half a century. He has resided in Atlantic City since 1909.
