The Jewish community of Dresden was the first community in the Soviet zone of Germany to receive permission to hold elections for communal officers, it was learned here today. Leo Lowenkopf was elected chairman of the community’s executive board.
One of the board’s first actions was the acceptance of the sum of 50,000 marks from the city of Dresden in partial payment for property destroyed or seized by the Hazis. The money will be used to rehabilitate the city’s Jewish cemetery.
