The publication during the week-end of the first volume of a new 30-volume translation of the scriptural writings known as the Apocrypha and the Pseudepigrapha was hailed at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria by Christian and Jewish scholars as an important contribution to an understanding of the Judaic-Christian civilization. The luncheon was tendered by Harpor and Brothers, the publisher.
The thrity-volume scholarly undertaking, which will take ten years for completion and cost over $100,000, is being sponsored by the Dropsie College and supervised by Dr. Solomon Zietlin, Professor of Rabbinical Literature at Dropsie. The first volume of the series is “Maccabees 1.” It was translated from the Greek by Dr. Sidney S. Tedesche, rabbi of the Union Temple, Brooklyn, N.Y.
