(From London it was reported today that Soviet Communist Party chief Nikita Khrushchev had written to all Socialist Parties in Western Europe warning of the “danger to the cause of peace in the Middle East.” The British Labor Party, a recipient of Mr. Khrushchev’s missive, apparently took the matter so seriously that party leader Hugh Gaitskell and Aneurin Bevan, the party’s “shadow Foreign Secretary” paid a hurried call on Prime Minister Harold Macmillan this morning.)
