The statement on the Middle East made by Secretary of State John Foster Dulles before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Friday has caused acute aggravation of the situation and has aroused intense bitterness throughout Israel, the Jerusalem Post, a newspaper which frequently expresses the views of the Israel Foreign Ministry, said in an editorial today.

A more effective way to encourage the Arabs to make war on Israel could hardly have been devised, the newspaper commented bitterly. It declared that the statement by Mr. Dulles brought renewal of the Arab-Israel war “immeasurably nearer.”

The Arabs, the editorial noted, having received arms-from one side (the Communist bloc) beyond their wildest dreams, are now being told by a leading Western statesmen that nothing effective will be done to prevent their attack, that Israel will not be armed for defence. This, the editorial declared, is a “Munich solution” to the problem.
