The local Jewish congregation has been made a “corporation under public law” by the State Ministry of Education and Religion.
This designation, which confers tax-exempt status and other advantages, is held by the congregations and churches of every recognized major denomination in Germany. It was formerly enjoyed by all Jewish congregations also, but Dusseldorf is now the first community in North Rhine Westphalia to which it has again been granted.
