The Dusseldorf Synagogue was broken into last Sunday night and money and valuables stolen, the Manchester Guardian reported today from Bonn. Some 700 marks in cash was taken as were some silver objects and gems which were removed from ceremonial objects.
The Prime Minister of Rhine Westphalia, H. Steinhoff, expressed his sympathy to the Jewish community of Dusseldorf. He assured the community that the police were taking. all possible measures to track down the criminals and recover the synagogue’s property.
The Guardian’s correspondent reported that a number of people were involved in the theft and that it was not yet clear whether they were motivated by racial and political motives.
