A Dutch monument honoring 350 concentration camp prisoners was recently found daubed with black tar, officials said.
Because of the vandalism, the monument probably will be demolished. The tar penetrated the porous limestone of the monument so deeply that it is almost impossible to clean, officials said.
No suspects have been found.
During the Holocaust, about 12,000 Jews passed through the camp, located in the town of Vught in the south of the Netherlands.
The most notorious of all the transports from Vught was one that took place via Westerbork to Sobibor on June 5, 1943, consisting of 1,266 children younger than 16.
