Forty-four seats were won today by the Nazis in the elections to the Dutch Provincial Estates, the representative governing bodies of the great local government areas. The Nazis will thus have eight per cent representation in the Provincial Estates out of the total of 590 seats.

A total of 295,000 votes were cast for the Nazi lists in the Provincial elections. The Liberals developed a strong campaign against the Nazis under the slogan, “Holland Is No Concentration Camp.” It has been established that the Nazis in Holland worked in “close cooperation” with the German Ambassador at The Hague.

The Nazis also won four seats in the Senate which is composed of fifty members. The Senate is elected for six years, one half of the members retiring every three years.
