Mrs. Rachel Wischnitzer, German Jewish art historical who recently arrived in this country, lectured before the meeting of the American Oriental Society yesterday on “Paintings of the Synagogue of Dura-Europos in Syria.” She said the earliest known cycle of Old Testament illustrations conveys the intense hope for Palestine restoration which inspired the Jewish communities of the first century after the Roman conquest. Mrs. Wischnitzer is the wife of Mark Wischnitzer, former director of the Hilfsverein der Juden in Deutschland.
