Abba Eban, former Israel Ambassador to the United States, was inaugurated today as president of the Weizmann Institute of Rehovot before an overflow audience. He was invested in office by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion.
Earlier today, Mr. Eban told a meeting of the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, that America’s policy of friendship for Israel was constant. He reviewed the ten years of American-Israel relations and said that the American policy was based on recognition of Israel’s growing strength, its independence and democratic regime, as well as common historical values. Prime Minister David Ben Gurion attended the start of the meeting as a mark of tribute to Mr. Eban.
