Foreign Minister Abba Eban received today Zaire’s Ambassador in Jerusalem, Gen. Nkulufa for a discussion at the Minister’s request. Officials said Eban would be talking to several African envoys before going to the United Nations where he hopes to meet some African Foreign Ministers.
Eban told the envoy how gratified he had been at the report of Israel’s Ambassador to Kinshassa, Shimon Morat, of his interview yesterday with Joseph Mobutu, President of Zaire. Morat called on the Zaire leader prior to ending his tour of duty.
Officials here are gratified at the tenor of both yesterday’s and today’s talks because of rumors that since the Algiers non-aligned parley a worsening of relations with Zaire was imminent. Zaire has been one of Israel’s best friends in Africa. Military training aid ended earlier this year, but Israeli teams of agronomists and youth cadre leaders are still functioning in Zaire.
