Foreign Minister Abba Eban said in the Knesset (Parliament) today that the Soviet Union has not made any approaches to Israel regarding a possible resumption of diplomatic relations which the Russians broke off at the end of the June 1967 Six-Day War.
Speculation that such approaches might have been made grew out of a meeting three weeks ago between Ambassador Yosef Tekoah, Israel’s chief representative to the United Nations, and Soviet Second Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Semyonov. It was learned, however, that the subject of diplomatic ties was not brought up at that meeting or in any other direct or indirect contacts between Israel and the USSR.
