President Luis Echeverria of Mexico will receive an honorary doctorate of philosophy from Tel Aviv University at a special ceremony Sunday, it was announced here today, Observers noted that Echeverria, who arrives here today after visiting 13 other countries, was not honored by a degree at any of the Arab countries he visited.
The degree notes the Mexican President’s ardent aspirations for a world of peace and justice based on human progress, his profound sympathy and concern for issues affecting the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and his dedication to the struggle against racial, religious, political and economic discrimination. It was also learned that one of Echeverria’s sons is now working on a kibbutz. Echeverria and his wife have expressed interest in the kibbutz life and are expected to visit at least one. Meanwhile, it was reported that Echeverria met with PLO leader Yasir Arafat in Alexandria before arriving here.
