Edward Jacobs, prominent American Zionist, whom the United States Government cited following World War I for his services as a “dollar a-year” man during that war, died here this weekend at the age of 77.
Born in Russia, and brought by his parents to Atlanta at an early age, Mr. Jacobs worked during World War I as a volunteer in the War Trade Board under Bernard Baruch. He joined the Zionist movement 60 years ago. His wife, Mrs. Rose Jacobs, was national president of Hadassah and a member of the Jewish Agency executive; She is now honorary president of Hadassah.
Funeral services for Mr. Jacobs were held yesterday at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism of which he was a member. Eulogies were delivered by Professor Mordecai M. Kaplan and Professor Shalom Spiegel. The funeral proceeded from the SAJ to Mt. Eden Cemetery in Westchester where interment took place.
