Eddie Cantor, noted stage and screen star, this week received the 1947 award presented by the United Jewish Appeal “for outstanding humanitarian service” in devoting unceasing effort in behalf of the relief, rehabilitation and resettlement of the Jewish survivors in Europe.
The presentation was made on behalf of Henry Morgenthau, Jr., general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, by Barney Balaban, president of Paramount Pictures, and head of the Motion Picture Division of the U.J.A., at a dinner in the Bellevue Stratford Hotel where more than 1,000 persons, including many leading stage, screen and radio personalities, assembled to honor Mr. Cantor.
