Foreign Secretary Sir Anthony Eden told the House of Commons today that there are encouraging developments in relation to lessening tension between Israel and Jordan.
He said that Gen. E. L. M. Burns, Chief of Staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization, was continuing his efforts to bring about an agreement for direct contact between the local Israel and Jordan commanders in the Jerusalem area.
Several MP’s asked Sir Anthony whether he would consult with the UN Secretary General as to the advisability of Gen. Burns expanding his proposal to cover direct contact between local commanders on all Israel-Jordan frontiers. Sir Anthony replied that the matter was under consideration and that he would make a written reply to the MP’s.
