Edward M. M. Warburg, retired chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, was elected president of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York here tonight. Mr. Warburg, whose election came at the annual meeting of the organization’s board of directors, succeeds Monroe Goldwater, an attorney who has held the position of president for 16 of the past 18 years.
Gustave L. Levy, president of Mount Sinai Hospital, was elected chairman of the board of the organization. Mr. Levy, a senior partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co., succeeds Samuel Hausman, an industrialist who has been chairman of the board since 1957.
Mr. Warburg gave 25 years of service to the Joint Distribution Committee. A member of the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York since 1958, he was appointed Governor Rockefeller’s special assistant on cultural affairs last September.
