The National Conference of Jewish Social Welfare, an organization of Jewish social workers, opened its 52nd annual meeting here today in the presence of about 1,000 leading Jewish social workers from 300 cities.
Addressing the opening session, Dr. Nathan E. Cohen, Professor of Community Organization at the New York School of Social Work, analyzed the effect of the country’s national emergency on Jewish social welfare. ”In the same way that the military must be unfailing in their courage and devotion to their task, we social workers must be courageous and devoted to our basic task of bettering the health, the economic security and general well-being of our people,” he said.
The many Jewish social welfare problems that have grown out of the present national emergency will be discussed and acted upon by the delegates during the four-day session. Charles Zunser, president of the Conference, was unable to attend the opening session because of illness.
