Incitements against Jewish residents of East Africa have been broadcast in the Swahili language from Cairo by the Egyptian Government broadcasting service.
The broadcast said: “The British have filled the colonies chock-full of Jews; and if a son of the country finds himself in need, he has no one to go to except a Jewish moneylender. The usury of these Jews, brought in and looked after by the British themselves, is unmentionable.”
The broadcast said the “Voice of Cairo” wished to strengthen the friendship between the peoples of Egypt and East Africa. It was directed against Jews and Britons residing in Kenya, Tanganyika and Malaya. They were accused of exploiting “the riches of the colonies, while causing starvation among the populations through taxes and by keeping wages low.”
