Israel-Egyptian negotiations for measures to ease the tension along the Gaza border hit a snag today when Lt. Col. M. Gohar, the Egyptian delegate, flatly refused to accept an Israel proposal for the erection of a physical barrier along the border.

Lt. Col. Gohar’s refusal followed his participation in a meeting with Jordan officials in Amman on an “all-Arab attitude toward an armistice with Israel.” The parley opposed fixed armistice agreements, preferring “Loose” arrangements as a guard against any further steps toward peace.
