Egypt is extending its blockade of Israel to the Akaba Gulf, on the Red Sea, it was reported today in a dispatch from Amman, capital of Jordan, which was published in the Daily Telegraph.
The report said that Jordan Government officials learned from the captain of a British ship that the Egyptians have installed a shore battery near the tip of the Sinai Penisula, at the entrance to the Gulf of Akaba. The British captain reported that his ship was signalled from the shore when it entered the Gulf and was asked for details of the ship’s port of elearance and authority.
