The Israel Army spokesman reported today that an Egyptian Mig jet fighter plane apparently was shot down this morning in an air battle over southern Israel territory.
The spokesman said that four Egyptian Mig jets crossed the northern Sinai border, penetrating two to four miles into Israel airspace. Two Israeli fighter planes rose to meet and engage the invading planes. One Mig was hit and seen falling with heavy smoke trailing it and parts falling away. The Israeli planes all returned safely to base.
