With only three days to go before Britain relinquishes the Palestine Mandate, the Egyptian Government today announced a “state of siege” throughout Egyptian territory as of May 15. The decision was taken for “the security of military forces, the maintenance of their lines of communication and their supplies and the publication of military news in the press so as to be able to undertake military action to repulse Zionist attacks on Arab Palestine.”
