An Egyptian Government mission representing the Egyptian army and navy has arrived in London to sign large-scale arms contracts. The contracts were negotiated in recent weeks by two Egyptian purchasing commissions which have been touring Britain.
The deals which have been concluded are said to be the largest placed by any Middle Eastern country for military stores and equipment. Neither the British Foreign Office nor the Egyptian Embassy here will say anything officially on the subject other than that the purchasing commissions have concluded agreements with a number of British private firms in which the British Government does not enter until the question of sterling releases and export licenses arises. Among the items reportedly purchased by the Arabs are artillery, jet planes, infantry equipment and light torpedo craft.
